The parking garage Boulevard Zeezijde is the first parking garage in the Netherlands which received a certificate for its environment friendly LED-lighting system. On Friday the 8th of May, Chiel Bekker, sales director at BB-Lightconcept, handed the certificate over to city council member Willem van Duijn. “The system of used LEDlightpipes is the only fully recyclable lighting system, with LED-lighting as a basis, in the world”, as explained by Chiel Bekker. City Council member Van Duijn complements:” the underground parking garage was an overall success, I’m proud to have received this certificate.”
BB LEDlightpipe® EVO
The BB LEDlightpipe® EVO, is a continuous optical stream of LED light modules which is composed of up to 4 tubes, with either 1 or 2 LED modules per tube, each containing 18 LEDs. Each separate LEDlightpipe has its own unique signature. This allows for independent control of the LEDlightpipes through means of the DALI protocol.
Where did I park my car?
The parking garage in Katwijk is the first parking garage in the Netherlands to implement a Park Assist system. This system uses camera’s to signal the location of the cars and lead the car correctly to free parking spots. The “find your car” option reads the license plates of the car and helps people to easily locate their car. Through the combination of lighting and the integrated parking system the assembly costs are significantly reduced. Furthermore, the combination of light and park assists means that the contractor has just one party with which they need to communicate. The light installation was assembled by Hoeflake Infratechniek (Hedel) while the Bosman corporation (Rotterdam) was the main constructor for the electric installment.
Cradle to cradle
The certificate is awarded on the basis of the ‘cradle to cradle’ principle, this principle is the ultimate form of Corporate Social Responsibility. The resources are poison free, biodegradable or can at least be separated in an easy manner so that they can be recycled without losing in value. This new norm for products leads designers and producers through a process of continuous improvement by looking at 5 different quality categories: state of the material, re-use of the material, renewable energy and carbon management, water management and social righteousness. Until October 2014 the applied BB LEDlightpipes had a bronze ‘cradle to cradle’ certificate. By applying recyclable components within the electronics the BB LEDlightpipe is certified as a bronze ‘cradle to cradle’, according to the new 3.0 certifying standard from the EPEA.
